If you have already purchased EditPad Pro, you can download your own licensed copy by typing in your email address and EditPad Pro user ID below. The default version choice gives you the latest version of EditPad Pro that your license is valid for, which may or may not be the latest version that was released. You can also download any older version if you want to run EditPad Pro on older versions of Windows.
Otherwise, buy EditPad Pro now! You can’t go wrong buying this mighty fine text editor for only US$ 59.95.
Both the purchased and free evaluation downloads include full documentation as a help file. Press F1 while using EditPad Pro to bring it up. The help file explains all of EditPad Pro’s features in detail.
If you want a printable manual, you can download the EditPad Pro manual in PDF format. It contains the same text as the help file.
If you just want to have a look at the documentation without downloading anything, you can read the EditPad Pro user’s guide on this website.
The difference between this free evaluation version and the full version is that the evaluation version will remind you to purchase your personal license key if you wish to continue using EditPad Pro. All of EditPad Pro’s features are available in the evaluation version, except for the spell checker (to reduce the download size of the evaluation version) and the configurable print headers (the headers in the trial version are fixed, reminding you to purchase EditPad Pro).
While you can use the custom syntax coloring schemes and custom file navigation schemes with the trial version, the separate applications for creating your own syntax coloring and file navigation schemes are not included.
Download EditPad Pro Free Trial (24 MB). Version 8.5.3, released 4 November 2024.
All downloads from Just Great Software are digitally signed. This allows you to verify that your download came from us and was not tampered with. It also allows anti-malware solutions to do the same, which generally results in less severe warnings or no warnings at all.
The certificates needed to apply such digital signatures expire after 3 years. They cannot be extended. Our certificate has expired recently. This means that EditPad Pro 8.5.3 is now signed with a new certificate.
This new certificate means that we are starting from zero with any anti-malware solution that tracks the reputation of publishers by their code signing certificates. This most notably includes the Microsoft SmartScreen filter that is used by the Edge browser and Windows itself.
If you download using Microsoft Edge then it may say that this file isn’t commonly downloaded. That’s because the new release of EditPad Pro 8.5.3 is seen as a completely new app. To access the download, click the button with the 3 dots and then click Keep. Edge will then pop up another warning saying to make sure you trust SetupEditPadPro.exe before you open it. To keep the download, click Show More and then click Keep Anyway. Now you can click the open file link in Edge to actually run the installer.
If you download using a different browser then SmartSceen won’t block the download. Instead, when you run the installer you may get a warning saying Windows protected your PC and that Microsoft SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Click the More info link immediately below the message. It should now identify “Just Great Software Co. Ltd.” as the publisher. This indicates that the file indeed comes form Just Great Software and was not tampered with. Click the Run Anyway button to run the installer.
The reason for all this is that the Microsoft SmartScreen filter believes in “safety in numbers”. It sees that thus far only a small number of people have run applications signed with our new certificate. It considers the download unsafe purely because of that. The fact that we’ve been publishing various versions of EditPad since 1996 and that all our EditPad releases have always been perfectly safe makes no difference. It sees EditPad Pro 8.5.3 as a completely new app signed with a completely new certificate.
If you are using a 3rd party anti-virus or anti-malware solution then that may similarly block the download or block the installer from running until you tell it to accept the download as safe.
Hopefully, in a few weeks’ time, enough people will have clicked the “run anyway” button for SmartScreen and other anti-malware solutions to start trusting our new code signing certificate. In the mean time, we thank you for your trust in our business and our software.
